WEB HELP
This site was originally designed for Netscape 2 (which is available for
evaluation from the Netscape home
page), but is now updated using Explorer. Most browsers should
receive readable copy and diagrams. If you are having any problems
reading this with another browser, please let
us know the nature of the problem and what browser (including
version number and platform) as we would like the journal to be as
widely accessible as possible.
There are a few other issues to do with the electronic format of the journal which may
require clarification:
PAGE NUMBERING
It is certainly possible to publish an electronic journal in such a way that when printed
to hard copy, page numbering can be maintained. To do so, however, means that readers have
to use software such as Adobe Acrobat, which at present does not seem to be as widely used
as web browsing software. The editorial team of the I.J.V.S. has decided to keep the
presentation as simple as possible and to avoid these systems. At the moment, this means
that conventional page numbering is not possible but progress on the web is such that we
think that in the near future this and other problems will be lifted.
PROBLEMS PRINTING?
Some people have reported problems printing out some of the longer articles in the
journal. To avoid this please ensure that the article has downloaded completely
(on most browsers this is indicated by the red 'Stop' icon being greyed out) before
starting to print.
You can also try adjusting Page Setup on your computer and ensure your printer prints as
fuller page as possible.
FINDING REFERENCES ONLINE
See Editorial comment in Volume 3 Edition 1.
In each edition, every paper and the editorial is numbered from 1 onwards depending on how
many items there are. The numbers appear on the index page of each edition. We have also
given each paper it's own full reference which appears at the end of that particular
piece. To look at the contents page of a particular edition, go to the Back Issues page.
This should make it easier if you wish to cite papers that have appeared in the journal,
as you can just copy and paste the reference line into your own document.
Note that in each edition section 1 is always the News & Reviews section,
subsequent sections are Contributed Articles.
DIAGRAMS
For viewing and printing the journal we recommend using Internet
Explorer or Netscape. However, depending on the version of a browser
you are using, when you print out your copy of the Journal you may
find that the diagrams may roll from one page to the next. We do,
however, realise that you will want all or some of the spectrograms
to a high quality.[Please note that this is only done with
the author's permission]. These may be downloaded in PDF
format so that you may analyse the data closely. Click the [High-Resolution
Spectrum] button underneath the diagram in the text to download the
data for one or more diagram. The PDF (Portable Document Format) format
is viewable via a free reader available from Adobe Software.
